Walla Womba Guest house

Green House

This great Tasmanian weekend house was designed by 1plus2architecture. It’s on the cover of The Green House: New Directions in Sustainable Architecture (by Alanna Stang and Christopher Hawthorne, Princeton Architectural Press), the catalogue of a recent exhibition about Green Houses at The National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

The catalogue features a wealth of fantastic designed eco-friendly architecture. The Walla Womba house featured above is completely independent of local power, water, and sewer connections. Electricity is supplied by photovoltaic panels with backup from a gas generator, water is provided by rainwater, and all waste is handled on site. Power demand is reduced by high-value insulation, double-glazing, and bedroom locations on the cooler side of the house.
