No One Belongs Here More Than You

No One Belongs Here More Than You

A smile appeared when I clicked through Miranda July’s funny website to promote her new book “No One Belongs Here More Than You“. You don’t need more than a marker and a well equiped kitchen to make a website!

The first in line

Greg Packer

From Wikipedia: Greg F. Packer (born December 18, 1963), an American highway maintenance worker from Huntington, New York, has been quoted in more than 100 articles and television broadcasts as a member of the public (that is, a person on the street rather than a newsmaker or expert).

Packer’s status as a frequent interviewee came about due to his hobby of attending public appearances of celebrities and other media events and being first in line on such occasions, leading to him being dubbed a professional line sitter. He has consequently had the opportunity to meet people including Mariah Carey, Garth Brooks, Dennis Rodman, and Ringo Starr, as well as at least three presidents of the United States: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

Most recently, he is credited as being the first in line to purchase a iPhone at the Apple Store at Fifth Avenue in New York. He began camping in front of the store at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2007, four days before the scheduled release.

New Windows Vista Fonts

Vista fonts

There’s a little trick going around the internet to download the new fonts that come with Windows Vista:

Windows Vista includes several new fonts based on ClearType that can be used on Windows XP as well as Macs. These beautiful typefaces were created especially for improving the on-screen reading experience in Vista.

Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn’t provide a direct way to download these fonts without buying Windows Vista.

But here’s a simple trick to download the Vista fonts for free and legally without buying a Vista license:

Download either the free Microsoft Powerpoint 2007 Viewer or the Microsoft Office Compatibility pack - both the software include the new Windows Vista fonts.

Once you install the above Microsoft programs, the Vista Fonts also become available for use on your Windows XP system.

More about the fonts and their use here.

David Lynch Talks About Inland Empire

Serge Gainsbourg vs. Whitney Houston

I don’t think there’s a tv moment where Serge Gainsbourg didn’t steal the show.
(… and what a cultural clash between the American and French comments on this YouTube-clip)

Overheard in New York

Doctor: Order an MRI, CT scan, and a full blood work-up.
Session assistant: Okay… What’s the primary diagnosis?
Doctor: I don’t know, cancer?

– Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

The concept is simple as can be: a website where anyone can post snippets of dialogue overheard in New York. Overheardinnewyork.com has been around for quite a while, but it still provides great doses of absurdism and funny snippets of dialogue.

Mom: Let’s take the stairs, honey.
Thick daughter: Are you saying I’m fat?

Strange sight

<Prada Marfa

This luxurious Prada store is situated along a desolate road near Marfa, Texas. Only, you can’t open the front door: it’s a permanent public sculpture entitled “Prada Marfa“, by artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset:

The work is located on the outskirts of Valentine, Texas near Marfa on desolate ranching land with no other visible trace of civilization. As one drives toward the artwork it appears to be a large minimalist sculpture; as one gets closer it looks like a luxury boutique where a display of Fall 2005 high-heel Prada shoes and bags can be seen through the store front windows. Yet, one cannot open the door, it is a sealed time capsule and will never function as a place of commerce.

Steve Jobs 2007 “Green” Keynote

The 2007 keynote hacked by greenmyapple.org! Complete with a close-up of Al Gore! (Al Gore’s climate concerns are definitely put into perspective when you realise he’s a member of the board of Apple, a company that ranks lower than Nokia, Dell and HP concerning Greenpeace’s “Green Electronics Guide“).
